Announcements following our 2021 AGM

Appointment of Christina Rowland-Jones as Honorary Ambassador

Following our AGM on 3rd November, we are delighted to announce that Christina Rowland-Jones (a former trustee) and founding member of Arts and Minds was elected as Honorary Ambassador of Arts and Minds - a charity which grew out of a a Millennium Arts Project Christina created with Fulbourn Hospital. This appointment is in recognition of Christina's creativity and unstinting service to Arts and Minds and to mental health charitable support across Cambridgeshire.

Board of Trustees updates

The AGM also saw Richard Taylor, another founding member of Arts and Minds stepping down as trustee. Arts and Minds would like to record its gratitude to Richard for his service to the charity, as a former Chair, trustee and volunteer over many years. We are delighted that Richard will be continuing as a volunteer, with his wife Kath, with the Michaelhouse Singers.

Helen McCallum, our Chair since 2014, also indicated her intention to stand down as her time in office had come to an end. We will be initiating a recruitment process shortly. Arts and Minds would also like to thank Helen for her longstanding commitment to, vision for and leadership of the charity over the past 7 years. Helen will remain in post until a replacement has been recruited and a suitable handover period has taken place.

AKA: A New Type of Gallery that gives 10% from each sale to Arts and Minds

We are delighted to be working with AKA Fine Art (a new online and event holding gallery) which launched this month with the clear aim of being a top contemporary art gallery whilst raising money for charity at the same time.

AKA Fine Arts i s the idea of Ali Porter of Conserve Paintings and Kevin Youngman of Wildwood Gallery who between them have over 40 years experience in the art world through gallery ownership, picture conservation and framing.

“Our vision for the business is to promote the most exciting artists building a team of talented individuals. We’re using traditional means of promotion: exhibitions, and art fairs and artists' talks" commented Ali, "whilst attracting the next generation of artists and art lovers by building a strong online presence."

“Mental health has always been an important issue and lockdown has only increased the strain on people's lives” said Kevin. “AKA is our opportunity to help, that’s why we are giving 10% percent of each sale to Arts and Minds. We’re very pleased to be working with Emily and her team for this crucial issue”.

AKA are excited to be chatting to Alex Elbro on Cambridge 105 with Emily (broadcast 12.30pm, 5 March 2021).

AKA will exhibit at:

  • Art Fair East in Norwich, June

  • the Clore Learning Studio, Kettle’s Yard Cambridge in October (fundraising event independent from Kettle's Yard's public programme)

  • a further pop up event yet to be disclosed is also being planned

Artists include: Charlotte Cornish, Corinna Button, Mr Penfold, Lillias August RI, Lydia Corbett, Kevin Southgate, Sigurdur Olafsson, Debora Gardner, Louise Chapman, Matt Phelps, Isabel Coulton, Eileen Hogan, Lord John Bird, Michael Ward and the Estate of Peter Denmark.
